Today was a good day to wrap up our small bathroom project, or at least advance it a bit further.

Our small 1/2 bathroom has been in need of some renovation since we moved in. The sink in that room was attached to the wall crooked (when the water was on, it hit well to the left of the drain) and felt wobbly. The first order of business was to replace the sink with a vanity. The vanity we found at Home Depot came with a European-style sinktop, cabinet, and matching mirror. Looks like you’ve had your last hard drive die on me. I’ve stopped buying from you guys awhile ago, or should I say, many “Caviar Clunks” ago. I buy from Seagate and Hitachi now, which have a near-perfect track record with me. Anyway, I let my cousin Kevin have at it with one of your drives.

While I grew up learning typing and BASIC on the IBM PCjr computers in 5th & 6th grade, and my family purchased a IBM PS/1 around that same time, my first real work on PC’s didn’t start until I was in high school. Working my first job putting cans and boxes on shelves & bagging groceries, I managed to scrape enough dough together to build my own PC, which was around $700. (This was right on the heels of my parents buying for Christmas a new Compaq Presario, for around $1,200. My dad wasn’t too happy.) Read the rest of this entry »

This year, as with last year, I will be running in the annual Y-ME race for Breast Cancer. My mom was diagnosed 2 years ago, went through radiation treatment, and is back on track to what we call “normal” for her. ** The 20-hour Workweek is the best part about having been diagnosed with breast cancer. There are some drawbacks, obviously. But why not focus on the ‘good stuff’?

Wanting to try my hand at web development, something I did not excel in with my previous attempts, I have set a list of development goals:

* Develop a group of pages linked with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
* Build a menu block within the group using either CSS or Javascript**
* Host pages of photos

And probably most importantly…

* Produce the ribdb, a compilation of my pork-related conquests.

** This one was inspired by Michelle soon-to-be Rybski, since her wedding page uses a suitably fancy JS menu. I decided to go with CSS for mine, working off of Stu Nicholls’ cssplay site.
